Tips On Selecting Your Granite Slab

There’s lots of choices in the TNT showroom when selecting a granite slab for your kitchen counter top… but how do you know which is the right one for you and your kitchen?

First things first – you need to decide on whether you are replacing the cabinets, because if you are, it is a good idea to select them first as your choice of kitchen counter tops will obviously be impacted by the look of those – and TNT’s supply of Ottawa granite slabs is diverse enough that once you’ve selected cabinets, you’ll have plenty to choose from.

Picking your color. Bring a color sample of your cabinets into TNT’s showroom so you can ensure that the slab goes nicely (compliments, not detracts) with the new cabinets.  It is not that you are looking for a match, but rather they compliment your cabinet choice.  Sometimes your choice will be driven by a desire to have a stark and stunning contrast from your cabinets. This doesn’t mean that the slab must match the cabinets—in fact, some customers prefer to have their granite countertops stand out from their cabinets. It’s just important to pay attention to how the two will look in close proximity to each other.

Picking the density. Typically the darker the granite is an indication of it’s density.  Darker slabs are denser than lighter slabs.  if you have concerns about stain resistance, you’d be wise to consider darker slabs. Darker, more dense slabs also require less frequent sealing and maintenance.

Picking your pattern. TNT has a wide variety of granite slabs with unique and striking patterns. What’s your style? What goes with the motif of your kitchen and the rest of your home? We’re glad to help find the right pattern for you.
