Ottawa Kitchen Countertops: Granite or Laminate?

Every day we have visitors to our Ottawa, West Ottawa, Carp, Kanata, Stittsville, West Carleton, Dunrobin, and Arnprior showroom looking to answer the question… Should we install granite countertops or laminate countertops?

Both have their merits, but it is a fact that granite will increase the value of your home and are a better quality material… but is it worth the extra investment?

Granite will have less selection or variety, so if that is important to you, then there’s a check in laminate’s column.  But if variety is what you seek, you may consider quartz, giving you stone countertops AND a selection of colors that do not exist in natural stone from a quarry.

Yes, price matters.  And granite countertops are more expensive.  If you just cannot find a way to swing the finances, you will need to settle for laminate.  But keep in mind, your granite countertops will pay you back when you sell your home.

Both laminate and granite countertops are durable – although the natural stone granite countertops are more so.  Laminate can wear down faster – which helps explain why the cost of granite is higher. Granite will outlast you,,, laminate may need to be replaced before junior enters high school.
